  21. As far as we are concerned, this should be sections 1, 2 and 3.
  22. This program started out as a personal project, but as a result of the 
  23. almost overwhelming response, it became a real software package.
  24. This thank you is to you people who have taken the time to register,
  25. and have taken the time to provide some very useful feedback.  For
  26. those of you who have been with us through the growing pains, we
  27. dedicate this version to you.

  31. Section 2 - What is DataFit?
  32.  
  33. DataFit is a tool which simplifies the tasks of data plotting, curve 
  34. fitting and statistical analysis.  What sets DataFit apart from similar 
  35. curve fitting and regression programs is its ease of use.  With the 
  36. combination of the intuitive interface, online help and wide range of 
  37. features, it is a tool which is used effectively by both experts and 
  38. non-experts alike.  With DataFit version 3.0 you can:
  39.  
  40.   - Enter your data in a standard spreadsheet interface, import 
  41.     delimited data files, or cut and paste data between DataFit and 
  42.     other Windows applications.
  43.  
  44.   - Fit your data to 54 built in commonly used scientific, statistical 
  45.     and engineering nonlinear regression models, or define an unlimited 
  46.     amount of your own regression models.  You can attach descriptions 
  47.     to your own regression models, and they are saved for future use.
  48.     Built in models automatically generate initial estimates, and you 
  49.     can define rules for user defined models so that initial estimates are 
  50.     calculated automatically for them as well.

  52.   - Perform linear OR nonlinear regression on one model at a time that 
  53.     you choose from a list, groups of models (built in model groups, or 
  54.     define your own), or all of the models available with a simple 
  55.     mouseclick.  The built in models are grouped together based on the 
  56.     number of parameters and the general shape of their curves, so there
  57.     is no need to 'blindly' solve every model.  As models are solved, 
  58.     they are sorted automatically according to their goodness of fit.
  59.     If you aren't an expert and aren't sure which model you should use,
  60.     DataFit helps you make this decision.

  62.   - View the results, including the fitted parameters along with their 
  63.     confidence intervals, input vs. estimated data, and goodness of fit 
  64.     information, all with a simple mouseclick.

  66.   - Data modification is a snap because the software keeps track of the 
  67.     most recently solved models.
  68.  
  69.   - Attach notes to record information and conclusions about the 
  70.     project.

  72.   - Save projects along with all of the notes and solution information.
  73.     There is no need to keep re-solving the problem.

  75.   - Export source code to utilize a model of your choice in a program 
  76.     that you have written.  You can export self-documented code in 
  77.     either BASIC or C.

  79.   - Manipulate raw data or regression models in a built in Data 
  80.     Calculator.  The Data Calculator can perform over 70 mathematical
  81.     and statistical operations on curves, discreet data, or numbers.  
  82.     The calculator can also perform some special functions, such as 
  83.     FFT's, creating a data table based on an equation you type in, 
  84.     or produce a "Normal" (Gaussian) curve based on user entered mean 
  85.     and standard deviation.

  87.   - Create plots of raw data and/or regression models by simply 
  88.     selecting the desired information from a list of available data.  
  89.     Each plot is completely customizable, including fonts, ranges, line 
  90.     colors and styles, error bars, visibility, et.

  92.   - Graphically compare the results of different models and/or data
  93.     on the same plot window.
  94.  
  95.   - Save plots along with all of their customization.

  97.   - Copy plots to the Windows clipboard for pasting into other 
  98.     applications.

  102. Section 3 - Machine Requirements
  103.  
  104. DataFit version 3.0 is a 32 bit application, supported on 
  105. Windows '95, and Windows NT version 3.51 or later.  
  106.  
  107. Memory Requirement - At least 4 MB RAM
  108. Disk Space Requirement - Approximately 4 MB
  109. Math coprocessor is not required, but will be utilized if present.

  113. Section 4 - Distribution and License Information
  114.  
  115. The software is being distributed as Shareware.  You may evaluate it 
  116. free of charge for 30 days. If, after the 30 day evaluation period, you 
  117. choose to continue using the software, you must register it.  
  118.  
  119. Register your copy of DataFit by selecting Complete Registration Form 
  120. in the Registration Information window.  Follow the instructions shown 
  121. to you in the registration panels.  This program relies on your support 
  122. for continued development, and single user registration is only $50.00.  
  123. When you register DataFit, you will receive a code that enables 
  124. additional features in the software and become eligible for priority 
  125. support. You will also be able to obtain free upgrades of the program 
  126. through our Web page (address below) with which you can use your 
  127. current registration code, until the next major release.

  129. To register a copy of DataFit, please use the Register program provided 
  130. with the software to make payments. We use KAGI Registration service, 
  131. which accepts different payment methods, including checks, mail orders, 
  132. credit cards and invoices. If you live in the US or Canada you may also

  157. the new cost of the software if there is a price increase.

  160. us for reduced rates on individual student licenses.

  162. Distribution is permitted provided you follow these instructions:  You 
  163. are free to make copies of the distribution archive (DTAFITxx.ZIP) 
  164. and pass it along to others for evaluation provided that no 
  165. modifications or additions are made to the software, its documentation, 
  166. or any associated files.

  174. Section 5 - Automatic Installation using SETUP.EXE
  175.  
  176. To automatically install DataFit for Windows on your hard disk:
  177.  
  178. 1. If you have received the software from an archive in the form of a 
  179.    .ZIP file, copy the contents of the archive to a temporary directory 
  180.    and unzip the files. Copy the unzipped files to a floppy disk to keep 
  181.    as a backup.  If you have received the software on a floppy disk 
  182.    directly from Engineered Software, the files will already be 
  183.    unzipped.

  185. 2. Place the disk in a floppy drive of your computer if you are 
  186.    installing from the floppy disk.
  187.  
  188. 3. Open the File menu of the Windows program manager (if you are running
  189.    Windows 3.1 or Windows NT) and select Run, or click on the "Start" 
  190.    button and select Run... (if you are running Windows '95).
  191.  
  192. 4. In the Run dialog box, type A:SETUP or B:SETUP, depending on the  
  193.    drive used.
  194.  
  195. 5. The Setup application will prompt you for additional information as 
  196.    required.
